Raiders crush Irondale, 60-29

At the beginning of the season, a top-two seed in section playoffs might not have been on the Roseville Area High School girls basketball team’s radar but that’s where it ended up.

Surprised or not, the Raiders made the most of their high ranking in the first round.

Roseville, seeded second in Section 5, Class 4A, rolled over seventh-seeded Irondale 60-29 at home on Feb. 2. The Raiders held the Knights to single digits in points in the first half and were on cruise control in the second.

Roseville led by 22 points (31-9) at halftime.

Eleven different Raiders found their way onto the score sheet by the end of the game. Junior Kaia Porter led all scorers with 20 points, while Sara Hain added nine and Kaylee Nelson had eight.

Sydney Driggs paced the Knights with a dozen and Kahlan Jester added five. No other Irondale player scored more than two points.

The victory improved Roseville’s record to 21-6, extended its winning streak to 10 games and advanced it to the section semifinals, which were held March 5 and past the deadline for this edition of the Review.

Roseville’s semifinal opponent was third-seeded Champlin Park, which thumped sixth-seeded Mounds View 66-31 in the quarterfinals.

On the other side of the bracket, top-seeded Park Center beat No. 8 Spring Lake Park 91-38 and fourth-seeded Osseo downed fifth-seeded Centennial 63-52 in the first round.

The Section 5, Class 4A final is scheduled for March 10 at 7 p.m. at Anoka High School.
