Wrestling season underway for Knights, Mustangs

The wrestling teams at Irondale High School and Mounds View High School have started their seasons and are at least a couple of events in already. Here's a quick look at how they've fared thus far.

Irondale
The Knights competed in the Don Meyers Invitational on Dec. 5 at Fridley High School and finished 11th in the team standings.

Five Irondale wrestlers placed in their individual weight class. Junior Sean Lafleur and senior Abraham Dukuly posted the team's highest finishes by placing fourth at 138 pounds and heavyweight, respectively.

Junior Jake Brown, wrestling at 145 pounds, took fifth place while senior Jordan Kedrowski (120 pounds) and junior Isaiah Baldwin (220 pounds) finished sixth.

On the docket this week for the Knights are a home quadrangular and a tournament. Irondale hosts Minneapolis Henry, St. Paul Central and St. Thomas Academy on Dec. 9 and travels to Columbia Heights on Dec. 12 for a multi-team tournament.

Mounds View

The Mustangs opened the season Nov. 28 at the Ken Droegemueller Invitational hosted by Osseo. The Mustangs finished second to only Scott West, which is ranked third in the state in Class AA.

Mounds View earned three individual championships at the tournament. Freshman Nick Dunagan took first at 106 pounds, senior Tanner Day won the 138-pound bracket and senior Benji Keillor placed first at 160 pounds.

The Mustangs hosted a triangular on Dec. 3 and went 1-1. They beat Woodbury 40-21 and lost 36-22 to Eastview.

Mounds View wrestled at the Board Hyland Duals at Coon Rapids on Dec. 5. Results were unavailable for this edition of the Bulletin.

The Mustangs' schedule is light this week with only one event on the docket. Mounds View travels to Stillwater for a Suburban East Conference dual on Dec. 10.
