Scouting signup includes model rocket

The Northern Star Council of the Boy Scouts of America announces the “Rocket Into Scouting” event for young boys and their parents from 7-8 p.m. Sept. 17 at all elementary schools statewide. Every boy who signs up for Cub Scouts that day will receive a free model rocket kit, to be built and then launched at a future meeting or council “Blast Off” event.

Cub Scouts is a program for boys in kindergarten through fifth grade that positively affects every area of a boy’s life by offering fun and active experiences to build character, leadership and life skills. A recent local survey conducted by Wilder Research found that since involvement in Cub Scouts, 76 percent of parents reported their son had increased their ability to solve problems on their own and 84 percent believed their son showed a greater willingness to help others.

A Cub Scout membership costs $32 per year, but all boys can join regardless of their ability to pay.  Parents can register their sons for Cub Scouts at any elementary school on Sept. 17, or online at www.RocketIntoScouting.org.
