School District 197 announced that Mark Quinn has been named the next principal at Moreland Arts and Health Sciences Magnet Elementary School in West St. Paul.

Quinn was recently selected by a group of staff, parents and administrators to lead Moreland starting this fall.

“Mr. Quinn was selected for his past instructional leadership and excellent interpersonal skills,” said superintendent Nancy Allen-Mastro who led the search committee. “His experience as a principal in a magnet school and proficiency in the Spanish language will be assets as he looks to continue the great work being done at Moreland.”

For the past seven years, Quinn has been the principal at Emerson Spanish Immersion Learning Center, a pre-kindergarten through grade 5 school in Minneapolis. Prior to working in Minneapolis, Quinn held positions in the Robbinsdale Area School District where, among other roles, he was an elementary Spanish immersion teacher for 15 years.

Early on in his career Quinn also spent two years as an immersion teacher at the International School of Cuernavaca in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

“I am eager to meet the school community and hope to lead Moreland to be an even stronger school, where all students achieve to their highest potential,” said Quinn.

In his free time, Quinn says he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and being physically active. He has completed 22 marathons and practices yoga.

Quinn holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. He earned a Master of Arts in Education degree and completed his professional administrative licensure (Principal K-12) at Hamline University in St. Paul. He is also a Board Certified Teacher through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Quinn began in his new position July 1. He will replace current principal Eric Bradley, who recently accepted a principal position in Massachusetts to be closer to extended family.
