Skyview schools go on one-hour lockdown

Police respond to reports of 'suspicious' former student on grounds

Skyview Middle and Skyview Elementary schools were locked down momentarily early Thursday morning, May 7. Oakdale police responded to Skyview Middle School, 1100 Heron Ave. N., just before 9 a.m. on a report of 14-year-old former Skyview student inside the building carrying a backpack.

Oakdale police had contact with the boy last week and school staff believed his behavior was suspicious, according to a press release from the Oakdale Police Department.

A full lockdown of the conjoined buildings was initiated at 8:47 a.m. just before classes were to begin at the elementary school. The elementary students were kept on buses or with their parents, while the middle school students were supervised inside the school by staff. The lockdown lasted about an hour and affected a total of 1,400 students at the two schools.

Police searched the building and school grounds for the boy but did not locate him on the property. No criminal activity was discovered at the scene.  The former student is not wanted for any criminal offenses.

There were no weapons, threats to students or staff involved in the incident, according to the Oakdale Police Department.
