Major I-35E closures to last until September

If you’re an East Sider who uses Interstate 35E north of Maryland Avenue, MnDOT advises you to be prepared.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday, April 23 that significant portions of I-35E will be closed during a construction project that will last until September.

The following northbound I-35E ramps were closed starting Monday, April 27:
• Maryland Avenue to northbound I-35E
• Roselawn Avenue to northbound I-35E
• Eastbound Highway 36 to northbound I-35E
• Westbound Highway 36 to northbound I-35E

Starting April 30, southbound I-35E traffic was shifted to the northbound side of the freeway. Then, just after midnight on Friday, May 1, the following ramps closed:
• Southbound I-35E to eastbound Hwy 36
• Eastbound Hwy 36 to southbound I-35E
• Westbound Hwy 36 to southbound I-35E
• Southbound I-35E to Roselawn Avenue
• Roselawn Avenue to southbound I-35E

Nightly lane closures will also occur on both directions of I-35E from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. until May 1.

“If the weather cooperates, we’ll be closing multiple ramps and lanes for several months,” a letter from MnDOT reads.

All the ramps and lanes are expected to reopen by early September. Detours for all the ramp closures will be posted along the roadway.
