Roseville gymnasts gunning for another four-peat

Back in 2009, the Roseville Area High School gymnastics team won its fourth consecutive state championship. This year's Raiders have the chance to repeat that feat.

Roseville enters the season as the three-time defending Class AA state champion and the favorite to once again hoist the first-place trophy at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion in February.

The Raiders return 10 letterwinners from last year's team and among those are six who competed at the state meet. Those six are senior Isis Muller and Kaylee Strecker, junior Kayla Storey, and sophomores Jessica Strecker, Kayla Soplata and Olivia Rosenow.

Jessica Strecker and Muller also medaled in the individual portion of the state meet last season. Strecker was second on the balance beam and sixth in the all-around while Muller was third in the all-around and fourth on the balance beam.

"We have 15 gymnasts on the team and all will contribute to our success," said co-head coach Mark Curley. "Our goals are to be competitive in the last meets of the season."

Curley, fellow co-head coach Mike Flatten and assistant Julie Castellano have been together as a staff for more than 20 years, and combined have more than 100 years of coaching experience.

Roseville's first competition of the season is a Suburban East Conference dual meet on Dec. 4 at Park-Cottage Grove. The Raiders also compete against East Ridge, Woodbury and Forest Lake prior to the Christmas break at the end of December.
