Headlight blues in Falcon Heights

Arrests, thefts and more around Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada and Roseville - Roseville Review police reports Sept. 9, 2014

Falcon Heights

Arrest
A missing license plate was responsible for the traffic stop Aug. 22 at Como Avenue and Underwood Street. The 47-year-old male driver also had a suspended license and no proof of insurance.

Look at me!
A 16-year-old boy was pulled over at Cleveland and Larpenteur avenues Aug. 24 and cited for driving with blue headlights (illegal), a suspended license and no front license plate.

Theft
A battery and the keys to a lawn tractor were taken Aug. 18 in a forced-entry burglary of a storage area at an apartment building in the 1500 block of Larpenteur Avenue. When last checked, the lawn tractor was still on the scene.

Don't get between boozers and their bottles. A woman took two bottles of high-octane spirits and left the liquor store in the 1500 block of Larpenteur Avenue Aug. 21 without settling up. A male employee confronted the thief outside, but was knocked down by a male accomplice. A female employee confronted the female suspect and was punched in the face. The suspects fled to a waiting vehicle. The loss was estimated at $29.

Two for one
An off-duty cop saw a man behind the wheel Aug. 20 in the 1400 block of Larpenteur Avenue that he knew had a canceled license. He also knew that the female passenger had a no contact order against the driver. Both 26-year-old suspects were arrested.

Lauderdale

Arrest
When police saw a vehicle with a cracked windshield at Larpenteur Avenue and Hwy. 280 on Aug. 22, they pulled the driver over and arrested the 28-year-old woman for driving after license suspension, no insurance and failing to obtain a Minnesota driver's license within 60 days of residency, in addition to the windshield.

Criminal damage to property
A witness told police that a suspect smashed a window at a business in the 2400 block of Larpenteur Avenue Aug. 19, went inside and assaulted a credit card machine.

Scam
A 17-year-old boy thought he had successfully purchased a vehicle on Craigslist, using eBay motors for the transaction. The youth sent $3,500 to the "seller," but the vehicle was never delivered.

Theft
It's certainly not as bad as waking up in a tub of ice with a missing kidney, but an ice thief is waiting to see if the management at a gas station in the 2400 block of Larpenteur Avenue is going to prosecute him for taking two bags of cubes Aug. 24 on his way out the door, not bothering to pay for them.

Little Canada

Assault
A 23-year-old New Hope man was charged recently with the July 23 assault of a Little Canada man. The suspect allegedly broke into the 26-year-old victim's Demont Avenue apartment, kneeing him in the head and beating him up while he slept. The issue is unknown but the men are co-workers. In addition to fifth-degree assault, the suspect has been charged with disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.

Sibling rivalry
A brother and sister argument over whether Mom should pay for sis's "beauty school" tuition resulted in 18-year-old sis pushing and shoving her 26-year-old brother and threatening to have him shot. "I know people," the teen allegedly said. She was booked at the jail on a verbal misdemeanor assault charge that could result in "bodily harm."

Theft
A wallet containing $70 to $90 in cash, gift cards, a check card and a bag of change were taken out of two unlocked vehicles parked in the driveway of a residence in the 2900 block of Centerville Road overnight Aug. 19. Deputies again made the often-ignored observation that removing valuables and keeping vehicles locked are effective deterrence's to theft.

A deputy on patrol observed a vehicle with an open trunk Sept. 1 pulling away from a construction site in the 400 block of Little Canada Road. Suspicions aroused, the deputy found a Wacker brand soil compactor in the trunk. One of two men in the vehicle said they had arranged to borrow the $2,000 machine but would be returning it soon. Neither suspect could remember who said they could take the compactor, so until they remember a 36-year-old from Little Canada and a 39-year-old from South St. Paul face pending felony theft charges.
