Raiders looking to get on a roll

Not much went right for the Roseville Area High School football team in week one, so a bounce-back was on the agenda in week two last week. The Raiders came through and now turn their attention to putting together a winning streak as they head into this week's game.

Roseville rebounded from its first-week loss by beating Woodbury 25-14 last week and heads out on the road for the first time this week.

Next up for the Raiders is a trip to Park-Cottage Grove on Friday for a tilt with the Wolfpack. Like Roseville, Park is 1-1 and coming off its first victory of the season.

Park opened the season with by losing 49-0 to East Ridge. Roseville also got shut out in week one in a 20-0 loss to Stillwater.

Roseville got things going in the win over Woodbury with a big second quarter. The Raiders scored three touchdowns in the second quarter and junior quarterback Henry Bensen had a hand in all three. The first came on a 17-yard pass from Bensen to Devin Dykes, and the second was a 16-yard pass to Riley McCann. The third was a one-yard plunge by Bensen.

Woodbury scored once in the second to make the halftime score 19-7. Bensen connected with Dykes again in the fourth quarter for a 34-yard touchdown pass play to put the game out of reach.

In addition to trying to win its second straight game, Roseville also has another streak on the line this week. The Raiders have won their last three match-ups against Park and in impressive fashion. Roseville has averaged 47 points per game against the Wolfpack the last three years.

Park's most-recent win over Roseville was a 29-7 triumph in 2008, a season in which the Raiders went 1-7 in the regular season. The two teams did not play in 2009 or 2010 and Roseville began its current streak against Park with a 48-23 win in 2011. The Raiders won 49-26 in 2012 and 45-19 last year.

Following the Park game, Roseville begins to prepare for its week-four game at home against Mounds View.
