Kath Auto Supply in North St. Paul closes

Much to the dismay of many local car-tinkerers, Kath Auto Supply, a small vehicle parts supplier in downtown North St. Paul, recently closed its doors.

A representative from Kath says the closure was “a corporate decision” by Uni-Select Auto Plus, which bought out the company some time ago.

The former auto supply building is on the west end of the downtown district along East Seventh Avenue. North St. Paul economic development director Paul Ammerman says the city is aware of the store’s closure, but currently has no plans for redevelopment or demolition of the one-story structure.

Slightly east of the former Kath store is Reflex Medical Molding, which began a size-doubling expansion earlier this summer. Business manager Kathy Fuller says construction of the addition is on-track, and that Reflex Medical had not considered the Kath space as an option for expansion or additional parking.

Reflex Medical employees currently park on the street, but after the expansion is complete, they will start using the River of God Church parking lot during the week.

Seven other area Kath Auto Supply locations remain in operation, including stores in Shoreview, Bloomington, Little Canada and Apple Valley.
