The Roseville Area High School baseball team continued its surprising post-season run on Tuesday with a 3-1, 10-inning victory over Hill-Murray. The ninth-seeded Raiders have now won three consecutive playoff games against higher-seeded opponents.

Roseville trailed the fifth-seeded Pioneers before tying the game with a run in the top of the seventh inning. The Raiders then scored twice in the 10th to take the lead.

Sean Donovan closed out the game with a scoreless bottom of the 10th inning. Donovan threw all 10 frames, giving up one run on six hits. He walked six, struck out six and overcame three Roseville errors.

Roseville pounded out 12 hits.

The win over Hill-Murray came three days after the Raiders toppled top-seeded Tartan 2-1. Roseville opened the post-season on May 23 with an 8-2 thumping of eighth-seeded Woodbury.

Deep post-season runs are nothing new for Roseville. The Raiders advanced to the section final last year as the seventh seed. In 2011, Roseville was the ninth seed and finished fourth in the section. As the eighth seed in 2009, Roseville finished third in the section tournament.

With the victory, Roseville advances to the winner’s bracket final on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Midway Stadium against second-seeded Mounds View. Roseville swept a double-header from the Mustangs during the regular season but there’s much more on the line on Saturday.

The winner advances to the section final next week and has two chances to win the section title and move on to the state tournament. The loser must win the loser’s bracket final and then win twice in the finals to make state.
