New on the beat ...

I suppose my involvement in the field of journalism could be chalked up to a series of lucky coincidences. My first brush with journalism was in fifth grade at Valentine Hills Elementary, when I was assigned to be a newspaper editor in a simulated Old West town.

My additional newspaper background involves a friend roping me into newspaper club in middle school, a stroke-of-luck internship at an online news site in Chile (where I studied abroad for a semester) and a brief copy editing stint for The Record, the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University campus newspaper.

I’ve always loved reading and writing, so majoring in English just made sense. My family has received the Bulletin for as long as I can remember, so when I graduated from St. Ben’s a semester early, interning with Lillie Suburban Newspapers was a natural fit. To my delight, my internship transitioned into a position where I now cover Lake Elmo, North St. Paul and Maplewood.

While I’m still new to life “in the real world,” I look forward to meeting and learning more about the community as I continue to explore!
